Transaction Advisors today announced the publication of a new technical article from investment banker Brian Graves, a Managing Director at Dresner Partners who brings more than 20 years of expertise to Senior Executives, Board Members, Business Owners, and Private Equity Groups and focuses on helping clients buy, sell, and merge companies, structure security transactions, and raise capital through private placements.

Mr. Graves’ article notes that acquisitions tend to succeed when buyers understand the value creation levers for the business, maintain discipline with their offer price, leverage their team’s creativity to win the deal, and implement an effective governance process post acquisition with a realistic strategic plan on day one post acquisition. He also indicated now is the opportunistic time for private business owners to think about selling their business, especially if their company has EBITDA of $2MM to $50MM as the opportunities for capital investments are likely to be more stable than they have been over the last couple of years. Mr. Graves’ paper mentioned that “The business case for growth by acquisition, in many situations, is better than the alternative, organic growth, especially when the objective is to enter a new market or develop a completely new business unit focused on expanding market opportunities, which are outside the core capabilities of the acquiring organization.”.
